GoodBooks formed in January 2005. Their music is nimble and fresh, with influences ranging from Kraftwerk to Pulp to Hot Chip. The strong vocal harmonies and quirky synth lines polish up a sound that the band call quite simply "us" - The Times helpfully called it "literate, avowedly untutored clatter".
Their self-released EP 'Valves & Robots' created a penguin stir among all who heard it, and has now sold out. Supporting Art Brut in August was followed just a few weeks later by a support for the Magic Numbers in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the request of the Magic Numbers themselves.
After a barrage of press and radio at the start of 2006, début single ‘Walk With Me’ came out on the 3rd of April as a one-off on London’s Transgressive Records. A UK tour followed in April, taking the live show well and truly outside the M25
After 'Walk With Me' was well and truly sold out, 'Turn It Back' was released in August of '06 as a free download only track. 7" vinyl promos were available to purchase on tours later that year and in early 2007.
Next was a 10" and CD release of 'Leni', a much anticipated look in at their further recorded material, released on 4th of December mid way through yet another tour stretching between late November and mid December.
Since then, The Illness has been released on 7" and CD and the band are on the brink of releasing Passhendaele (16th of July), a previous demo from EP, Valves & Robots, and their debut album Control (30th of July).
Support billings with high flyers such as Hot Club De Paris, Maccabees, The Magic Numbers and The Sounds have catapulted the band forward in recent months and this has increased the levels of "buzz" around their original and refreshing sound...
